Terms of use
Last updated: 15 May 2026
These terms govern access to and use of the GetLawyer website and services. By creating an account, browsing listings, or using any feature of the platform, you agree to these terms.
This page is provided for transparency about how our platform works. It is not legal advice. For advice about your situation, consult a qualified lawyer. Before relying on these terms in a commercial context, consider review by qualified counsel.
1. Acceptance and changes
If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the platform. We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date reflects the latest version. Material changes may be communicated on the site or by email. Your continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance, to the extent permitted by law.
2. What we provide
GetLawyer is a technology marketplace that helps users discover independent lawyers, view public profile information, request consultations, exchange messages, and (for lawyers) manage a professional listing subject to verification and subscription rules.
We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice, legal representation, or attorney-client relationships with GetLawyer. Any legal advice is provided solely by the lawyer you engage, under terms you agree with them.
We do not guarantee outcomes in any matter. Listing, verification, or “verified” labels indicate that a lawyer has met our onboarding checks at a point in time—not a guarantee of quality, availability, or fitness for your specific case.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering a binding contract under Indian law. Lawyers must hold a valid enrolment with a State Bar Council in India (or other jurisdiction we explicitly support) and provide accurate credentials and documents when requested.
4. Accounts and security
- You must provide accurate registration information and keep it updated.
- You are responsible for activity under your account and for safeguarding your password.
- Notify us promptly at Contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or pose risk to users or the platform.
5. Lawyer listings and verification
Lawyers who join the platform agree that:
- profile information (fees, experience, practice areas, location, languages) must be truthful and kept current;
- they will upload genuine verification documents when requested and cooperate with admin review;
- public visibility may require admin approval and an active paid subscription where applicable;
- they comply with Bar Council of India rules on advertising and solicitation, and all applicable professional conduct rules;
- they alone are responsible for client engagements, conflicts checks, fees collected outside the platform, and professional indemnity insurance.
We may remove or hide listings, reject applications, or terminate lawyer accounts at our discretion for policy breaches, fraud, or complaints, without refund of fees already paid except where required by law or our subscription policy.
6. Clients and engagements
Clients agree that:
- information shared with lawyers through the platform may be subject to lawyer-client privilege only after a formal engagement is established with that lawyer—not with GetLawyer;
- they will not use the platform for unlawful purposes, harassment, or to solicit services that violate professional rules;
- consultation fees shown on profiles are indicative; final fees and scope are agreed with the lawyer;
- disputes about legal services are primarily between the client and the lawyer, though we may offer reasonable support channels.
7. Fees, subscriptions, and payments
Lawyer subscription fees and payment processing are handled through our payment partner (e.g. Stripe). Prices, billing cycles, and cancellation terms are shown at checkout and in the lawyer dashboard. Taxes may apply as per Indian law.
Consultation or matter fees between clients and lawyers may be arranged directly unless we introduce in-platform payment features. We are not responsible for off-platform payment disputes unless explicitly stated otherwise.
8. Acceptable use
You must not:
- impersonate others or misrepresent your qualifications;
- upload malware, scrape the site excessively, or attempt to bypass security or rate limits;
- post defamatory, hateful, or illegal content in messages or reviews;
- circumvent our fees by soliciting users you met on the platform to transact entirely off-platform in bad faith;
- use automated means to harvest data or manipulate search rankings.
9. User content and reviews
You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and process that content solely to operate and promote the platform. Reviews must be honest and based on genuine experience. We may moderate or remove content that violates these terms or applicable law.
10. Intellectual property
The GetLawyer name, logo, site design, and software are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, or distribute them without permission. Lawyer-provided content remains the lawyer’s responsibility; they warrant they have rights to materials on their profile.
11. Privacy
Our collection and use of personal data is described in our Privacy policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.
12. Disclaimers
The platform and all content are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, GetLawyer and its directors, employees, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunity, arising from your use of the platform or any engagement with a lawyer.
Our total aggregate liability for claims arising out of or relating to these terms or the platform will not exceed the greater of (a) amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) INR 5,000, except where liability cannot be limited under Indian law.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless GetLawyer from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your use of the platform, your content, or your professional services (for lawyers) or misuse of services (for clients).
15. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the platform at any time. We may suspend or terminate access immediately for breach, legal requirement, or risk to users. Provisions that by nature should survive (including liability limits, indemnity, and governing law) will survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Courts at Bengaluru, Karnataka shall have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer protection or other non-waivable rights you may have under applicable law.
Before formal proceedings, we encourage you to contact us at Contact us so we can try to resolve concerns in good faith.
